چکیده

VMI (Vendor Managed Inventory) system is known as an effective mechanism to reduce the bullwhip effect between suppliers and buyers, by switching the responsibility of inventory management from buyers to suppliers. Although most attempts of VMI implementation have been successful, there were some failure cases such as in South Korea. VMI system was beneficial only to the buyer and hurt the long-run relationship in the supply chain. This paper discusses the possible factors to result in the unsatisfactory VMI implementation.

Improving Supplier’s Performance Using Common Replenishment Epochs in a Vendor-Managed Inventory System

This paper studies a single-product supply chain, in which the supplier needs to manage its own inventory to fulfill requests from a set of heterogonous retailers. The retailers’ requests are determined by the supplier in a fashion of vendor-managed inventory (VMI). Under a VMI arrangement, the supplier agrees to pay all the order setup costs and a portion of unit holding costs for the retailer...

Properties of Nash Equilibrium Retail Prices in Contract Model with a Supplier, Multiple Retailers and Price-Dependent Demand

Recently, price contract models between suppliers and retailers, with stochastic demand have been analyzed based on well-known newsvendor problems. In Bernstein and Federgruen [6], they have analyzed a contract model with single supplier and multiples retailers and price dependent demand, where retailers compete on retail prices. Each retailer decides a number of products he procures from the s...

The value of VMI beyond information sharing in a single supplier multiple retailers supply chain under a non-stationary (Rn, Sn) policy

This study aims to determine the value of vendor-managed inventory (VMI) over independent decision making with information sharing (IS) under non-stationary stochastic demand with service-level constraints. For this purpose, we utilize mixed-integer linear programming formulations to quantify the benefits that can be accrued by a supplier, multiple retailers and the system as a whole by switchi...

Cooperation vs. Non-Cooperation: Balancing Inventory and Stockout Risk in Retail Supply Chains Using Fast-Ship

In this paper, we consider a two-retailer and one-supplier supply chain in which retailers make an extra effort to satisfy demand from customers who experience stockouts — retailers offer to direct-ship out-of-stock items on an expedited basis at no extra cost to customers. This practice is referred to as the fast-ship option. By supporting the fast-ship option, retailers and suppliers can redu...
